The Chipping Norton Yacht Club is for all who love boats and the sea. We may be 100 miles inland but that’s precisely why we need a yacht club. There are many people locally who sail but, until now, there’s been nowhere for them to meet like-minded nautical folk. Whether you take your fun on a sail boat or a motor boat, whether you have your own craft or charter, at the Chipping Norton Yacht Club you’ll meet lots of people who share a common interest.
Every month during the winter we meet at the Wychwood Golf Club for a meal and a talk – either by a guest speaker or by a member. In the summer, when many of us are out on the water somewhere, we have informal monthly get-togethers – typically in a local pub. Speaker topics are designed to appeal to the wide range of members’ interests; from sail trimming to ropework, from crossing the Channel to French inland waterways, from coping with heavy weather to making the most of nautical forecasts.
If you don’t own a boat but would like to sail we may be able to help. Equally if you have a boat but need a crew, look no further. Let us know and we will try to match crew and skippers.
You do not need to own a boat to join; all you need is a love of boats and the sea. Many members do, of course, own boats, both sail and power, but we also have members who charter a boat for two weeks of the year for their family holiday.
The Chipping Norton Yacht Club is a non profit-making club run by its members for its members. The membership fees cover the day-to-day running costs of the club. That’s why the cost of membership is substantially lower than many shore-based clubs which have expensive properties and staff to support.
