The Chipping Norton Yacht Club is for all who love boats and the sea. We may be 100 miles inland but that’s precisely why we need a yacht club. There are many people locally who sail but, until now, there’s been nowhere for them to meet like-minded nautical folk. Whether you take your fun on a sail boat or a motor boat, whether you have your own craft or charter, at the Chipping Norton Yacht Club you’ll meet lots of people who share a common interest.
Every month (except some of the summer months) we meet at the Wychwood Golf Club for a meal and a talk – either by a guest speaker or by a member. In the summer, when many of us are out on the water somewhere, we have informal monthly get-togethers – typically in a local pub. Speaker topics are designed to appeal to the wide range of members’ interests: from sail trimming to ropework, from crossing the Channel to French inland waterways, from coping with heavy weather to making the most of nautical forecasts, along with inspirational sailors past and present. In fact if it is connected with sailing, we’ll probably have a talk about it sooner or later.
If you don’t own a boat but would like to sail we may be able to help. Equally if you have a boat but need a crew, look no further. Let us know and we will try to match crew and skippers.
You do not need to own a boat to join; all you need is a love of boats and the sea. Many members do, of course, own boats, both sail and power, but we also have members who charter a boat for two weeks of the year for their family holiday.
The Chipping Norton Yacht Club is a non profit-making club run by its members for its members. The membership fees are modest by Yacht Club standards and are mostly spent on speaker fees and costs. In a few cases each year a speaker will ask for a donation to a charity, in lieu of a fee.
Single membership: £49 pa
Double membership: £75 pa, open to two people who live at the same address
