7 for 7:30Cotswold Club
Although Club member Phil Levermore has owned ‘Scandal’, his Scanmar 345 for 16 years, he spent the previous quarter century as a determined SOPB (sailor of other people’s boats). His life as a SOPB had an inauspicious start, sinking a hired Walker Tideway dinghy in Hyde Park’s Serpentine lake, aged 11. But something in the soggy experience must have given him the sailing bug as, over the next 25 years, Phil borrowed, hired and blagged dinghies and yachts in the UK, France and Spain.
Lessons were learnt, sometimes in the classroom, mostly on the water, and occasionally the hard way, but life-long memories were created. Phil will share some of his stories from his days as a SOPB and will reflect on the upsides and downsides with this way of getting on the water.
